This past Sunday I had the opportunity to work with Yo Soy Ella, a not-for-profit organization. They had an event for survivors of domestic violence and survivors of breast cancer. The event was to pamper women who normally do not ever receive attention. It was such an amazing experience. I love working with not-for-profits because it really brings me joy to see people being helped and given attention.
When we arrived at the event, they were so open and friendly. They did not have any specific instructions for us. Once we did a quick walkthrough, we realized that we could set up a make-shift photo booth. The ladies loved the idea.
Yo Soy Ella Inc. is an organization that services include a spiritual -therapeutic approach to mentoring Latina women. To detail, Latinos are not only stimulated through culturally specific healing, but are more receptive to familiar and relatable communication techniques that reaffirms their inner beliefs, values, traditions, and most importantly, their language. Spiritual mentorship within a strength-based approach will act as our sealant to holistic emotional and mental healing. We believe that we are co-creators of our lives. It’s been stated throughout literature that one must focus on the mind, body, and soul to truly reach the enlightened stage to begin to understand and reap the riches of living out your personal best.
