Marianna is a 20 year-old, chicana that was born and raised in the Southside of Milwaukee, aka, the latino hood. She is a first-generation college student at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, is majoring in Creative Writing, as well as getting a minor in Spanish and a certificate in Latin American and Carribean Studies. Outside of school, she works at the Wisconsin Humane Society as an Adoption Counselor and Animal Care Technician. She plays as a violinist and sings as a vocalist for an all student-led Mariachi, Mariachi Monarcas de Milwaukee. She first started playing violin at the age of 5, where she was taught not only classic music, but traditional music of Mexico as well. As she grew up, her love for her Mexican culture and its music began to grow stronger and stronger, and greatly influenced her as not only a musician but as a person. She proudly plays mariachi music with some of her lifelong and closest friends, where they participate in festivals, shows, community events, awareness events, as well as private events. During quarantine, Marianna spends her time working with animals at the Wisconsin Humane Society to help them find their forever homes, writing short stories about her experience as a chicana woman, spending time with her family, and eagerly preparing for when the mariachi is able to go out and perform again.
