Coquito Product Photography

My friend makes coquito, a Perto Rican drink that contains rum, coconut, and cinnamon. I don’t know much about the drink, but it tends to be seasonal. I purchase it around the holidays to have or bring to parties.

She asked me to take a photo of it because she had forgot to. I thought this would be a good opportunity to see what I would need to do product photography with a bottle.

She handed me the bottle with the ribbon and bow. I wanted to keep the colors fairly similar, and muted. I also wanted to keep a holiday theme.

This was just a quick runthrough to see what I equipment and methods I would need in order to take a photo like this. Over all, I like the way it came out. There are a few things that I would like to have done with more time. With this photo, I only used one studio light with an umbrella modifier. If you look close enough, you can see the umbrella reflecting off of the bottle in the center. I could have tried to add a second modifier in front of the umbrella to even it out. Unfortunately, I don’t have one. I could have tried to use a white sheet.

After I settled on the photo I wanted to use, I did some editing. The photo at the top is the one that closest resembles the colors. The three in the middle I used different presets, and made minor adjustments. I wanted to see what they would look like if they were stylized a little.

I really enjoy doing product photography. I hope to do more of it in the future. I enjoy tring to find a theme and trying make it match.
