Capturing Creativity and Community with La Brocha

I recently had the honor of photographing an art workshop hosted by La Brocha, an organization dedicated to supporting elderly Latinos living with memory loss. The event took place at Tu Casa Guanajuato in McKinley Park, Chicago — a warm and vibrant space filled with laughter, music, and creativity.

Participants were given canvases featuring the outline of a traditional pitcher of juice, then guided step by step to bring their artwork to life with color and personality. Each painting became a reflection of memory, culture, and joy. Between brushstrokes, everyone shared a delicious lunch, creating moments of connection that were just as meaningful as the art itself.

It was a privilege to document such an uplifting celebration of culture, resilience, and community care.
