Anna and Christian are a small family of two. They live in Indiana, within several miles of the Indiana National Dunes. Anna works full-time as a School Psychologist and Christian just finished 4th grade. During their quarantine time, this mother-son duo started a new challenge; every day from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. all media devices were shut down. Anna explains, “We wrote a bucket list of activities and Christian came up with some amazing ideas. There were also more serious activities that Anna wanted to try. “One thing I really treasure now is that I was able to teach Christian how to pray the rosary, something my mother taught me when I was his age. It really hit me hard when I started remembering my family life at his age and then thinking about my elderly parents, both legally blind and alone during this crisis.” For Anna and Christian, playing music has been like a security blanket. “There were many different activities Christian and I were able to try but practicing at the same time every day kept us grounded and made things feel normal.” Being socially isolated gave Anna and Christian an opportunity to explore music together more deeply. “We had so much fun improvising and harmonizing together. It’s difficult to explain but we felt the music together. It was so beautiful playing with my son. I enjoyed it so much because we weren’t rushed or distracted. I felt such a unique, musical bond with Christian and it brought us even closer. I will always treasure these new memories”
